Our Story

Founded in 1995 by Karen Sabourin, Physio+Plus was one of British Columbia’s first fully integrative health clinics, setting a pioneering precedent for multidisciplinary, whole-person care long before integrative medicine became mainstream. The clinic became known for its innovative approach, blending advanced therapeutic practices, medical expertise, and natural healing modalities to achieve outcomes that traditional treatments alone often could not.

This integrative model was supported by a highly skilled, cross-disciplinary team: a Master Clinical Hypnotherapist, Registered Physiotherapist, Registered Massage Therapist, Kinesiologist, and two Registered Nurses, one of whom specialized in alternative medicine and later became a Naturopathic Doctor.

Together, this team embodied a philosophy that healing is most effective when the brain, body, and internal chemistry are all supported simultaneously — a principle that would later influence the development of BSW’s neuroscience-based wellness model.

Physio+Plus was selected to collaborate with the University of British Columbia (UBC) in a research study examining the effectiveness of our proprietary herbal tonics used in topical body wraps. This partnership validated our clinical observations and strengthened the scientific foundation behind our integrative treatments.

As one of the first integrative clinics in BC to receive full MSP coverage, Physio+Plus became a central referral hub for physicians, specialists, ICBC claims, and workers’ compensation cases. Our reputation for handling complex files and achieving breakthrough outcomes made the clinic a trusted choice for clients with a broad range of medical, rehabilitative, and specialized needs.
