Meeting the Pope and helping Congolese Women and Refugees

Our Story

Our 2016 Vatican Mission

In November 2016, our team was honored to be invited to the Vatican, where we were joined by several members of our organization and a charitable partner whose full participation we proudly sponsored. We covered all travel and accommodations for every attendee, ensuring that everyone involved could focus fully on the mission ahead.

During our time in Vatican City, we were introduced to a group of Congolese women who had survived the horrors of war and severe sexual violence. In a deeply humbling moment, Vatican officials asked us to provide our BSW trauma-elimination techniques to support their healing. Over two days, we worked closely with these courageous women and also trained others in our methods so the support could continue long after our departure.

Beyond our work, we were granted rare access to several private, restricted areas of Vatican City—a gesture that reflected the level of trust and respect extended to our team. We were also honoured to participate in the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, a once-in-a-lifetime holy event. In an unforgettable moment, two of our members were chosen to carry the holy cross during the procession to St. Peter’s Basilica.

Our mission extended beyond Vatican City. We were invited to visit Amatrice, Italy, a community devastated by the August 2016 earthquake. The mayor personally requested our support due to the overwhelming trauma experienced by rescue teams, especially following the loss of so many children. Over 300 soldiers were actively working to recover bodies from the rubble, and the emotional toll was immense. We were asked to provide BSW techniques to help stabilize, support, and strengthen those on the front lines of this tragedy.

While in Italy, we also travelled by bus through the Alps to four different villages, where we demonstrated our BSW 5+1 Program. These sessions offered communities practical tools for trauma processing, emotional regulation, and resilience-building during an incredibly difficult time.

Upon our return home, the mission continued. Partnering with one of our members who worked in an elementary school, we invited students to create heartfelt cards of love, hope, and encouragement for the children affected by the earthquake. Witnessing the genuine enthusiasm of the students—and the compassion they poured into each message—was a powerful reminder of the impact collective kindness can have across continents.

This journey left a profound impact on our organization. It strengthened our commitment to global healing, demonstrated the reach of BSW techniques, and highlighted the extraordinary compassion that emerges when communities come together to help those in need.
